We at Titan YDSA are horrified and outraged to learn about the tragic murder of Sonya Massey by Sangamon County Sheriff deputy Sean Grayson. This violent killing of a woman of color in her own home – after she had called the police looking for protection and help – once again demonstrates the continued and systemic brutality of the police. Nothing will change unless we as a society bring change. We must continue to build communities that can protect and defend each other, and work to eliminate the threat posed by police to our communities. Our hearts go out to Sonya’s family, and to all the families of those who have been viciously slaughtered by police across the country. From Fullerton to Springfield, we must not rest until liberation.
