- Call to Order
President Saffa Nahi called the meeting to order at 9:06 A.M. - Roll Call (1 min)
Present: Saffa, Amy, Elijah, Juniper, Juan, Isabella, Jack, Christian, Jose, Anni, Ajax, Rey (non-member)
Absent: Annette (excused), Kamal - Approval of the Agenda (1 min)
General Secretary Amy moves to approve the agenda. Saffa seconds. No objections, motion passes. - Membership Drive (5 min)
General Secretary Amy Parker will help anyone who isn’t a full official member join Titan YDSA formally. - Constitutional Amendment Ratification (5 min)
Members will vote on whether to ratify the Anti-Zionist Amendment (as passed in the June 24, 2024 meeting), as well as any amendments to the Amendment. Members may submit amendments in writing up to one hour before the meeting, which shall be posted on the agenda; members may also make floor amendments.
Current amendment:
Article III, Section 2 is hereby amended, to read:
2. Membership in this Chapter shall be open to all regularly enrolled California State University, Fullerton students who are dues-paying or dues-waived members of the Young Democratic Socialists of America. Titan YDSA reserves the right to deny membership based on its policies or on a reasonable belief that an individual is requesting to join to disrupt the activities of the Chapter.
Prior Amendments:
Amendment A – Submitted by General Secretary Amy Parker
Amy moves to adopt Amendment A. Saffa seconds. No objections, motion passes.
Amy moves to adopt the Constitutional Amendment. Saffa seconds. No objections, motion passes. - Andrew Do Resign Endorsement (5 min)
Saffa: believes it’s a good idea, good for campaigns to endorse the call.
Elijah: it is anti-corruption, so good idea.
Christian: its a lock.
Jack: supports.
Amy moves to endorse. Jack seconds. No objections, motion passes. - Save WoW Endorsement (5 min) https://www.reddit.com/r/csuf/s/OWbhmbIQRT
Saffa: should endorse, showing up on October 15. Endorsing public campaigns builds trust, improves our campaigning strategies.
Jack: necessity of walkable areas is very important in urban planning. OC, LA in general is spread out, need a car, traffic is the worst; having a place where you can walk to and from instead of parking is a much better thing to have.
Elijah: yep.
Juan: loves going to WoW.
Christian: walkable spaces are great.
Amy moves to endorse. Saffa seconds. No objections, motion passes. - General Secretary’s Announcements (5 min)
Chancellor’s Time/Place/Manner Policy: bans masks at actions, bans encampments, significantly restricts the ability to protest and especially to counter-protest, likely illegal
SB 1287 unanimously passed the Assembly Appropriations Committee, going to the Assembly floor. Dangerous and unconstitutional – it plus Chancellor TPM = all protests are essentially illegal, especially Palestine-related protests.
DSA National Political Committee is making work with SJPs and PYM substantially more difficult. Need to work more on projecting differences/standing out, getting local reform within YDSA.
New Campaign: Students Help Students! Make Titan YDSA the central place people can go for everything – financial aid help, other University paperwork, basic needs paperwork, etc. Eventually can grow into a full mutual aid program.
Also, Irvine recall, and Sherman campaign.
CSUF Divest General Assembly
Amy moves to have CSUFDGA be Sep 17, 3PM. Jack seconds. No objections, motion passes. - President’s Announcements (5 min)
Using time for introductions.
Nice to see everyone, thanks for coming to the meeting.
OCDSA event – Aufust 31, Doctors without Borders from Gaza – RSVP online
Jack: Quarterly Meeting for UFCW 324, September 11. Discussing Sherman Recall, looking for Titan YDSA members to show up at the union hall to argue for support of the recall. When the UAW 4811 lawsuit was announced, UFCW 324 was hesitant to oppose, as not asked by UAW 4811; things have changed now with the lawsuit. Union hall is in Buena Park; meeting specifics will be sent on Discord. - Treasurer’s Announcements (5 min)
CSC Panda Express Fundraiser
CashApp – $ydsatuffy - Setting Priorities (15 min)
Topics: Divestment, Free Speech (SB 1287/Systemwide TPM/PD5), ASI Transparency, LGBTQ+ Rights (DIRC, Flagpoles), Tuition Hikes, Police Demilitarization (Disarm/Defund/Abolish UPD, Demilitarize FPD), Recall, Others?
Saffa: divestment, police demilitarization. Started working on those last semester, should be main campaigns now.
Jack: tuition hike is a lost cause? Amy: yes, can target SWI but not much there.
Saffa: OCDSA gave clarity that tuition hikes, Sherman are money, time wasted when we can progress on other campaigns.
Isabella: asked for clarification on ASI transparency/MEChA solidarity.
Jose: it is election season, relatively soon. Any local endorsements? Saffa: following DSA’s lead; Dom Jones running for Assembly for HB, ideologies on police, POC, Palestine were not good, heavily endorsed Kamala Harris. Amy clarified endorsement procedure.
Saffa: Looking for active members, those who can be active organizers. Let us know if you can do stuff. Active organizing – tabling, events, campaigns, actions. Have the rights to sit into event planning meetings. Amy clarified constitutional rules on active organizing.
Amy moves first divestment, second police. Saffa seconds. No objections, motion passes. - Signmaking (20 min)
- Adjournment
Meeting was summarily adjourned at 11:30 A.M.
