In Support of Arresting International Fugitive Benjamin Netanyahu: Resolution 24-04

WHEREAS, on November 21, 2024, the International Criminal Court’s Pre-Trial Chamber I rejected the Zionist regime’s challenges to the Court’s jurisdiction over government officials in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, and issued arrest warrants for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant on suspicion of crimes against humanity and war crimes; and

WHEREAS, these arrest warrants come after fourteen months of the genocide in Gaza and seventy-six years of the occupation of Palestine by Zionist settler-colonists, who have engaged in all of the behavior alleged by the Court and more, leading to the mass displacement of Palestinians, imposition of racial apartheid, and mass slaughter; and

WHEREAS, the United States of America is not a signatory to the Rome Statute, which would require that public officials detain and deliver to the Court those who have arrest warrants against them, as a measure to avoid accountability for the United States’ own war crimes, crimes against humanity, and imperialism, even going as far as to institute in federal law that attempts by the Court to arrest American officials would automatically authorize a military invasion of the Netherlands; and

WHEREAS, while the Federal government will not arrest Netanyahu and Gallant, local and state governments can still choose to do so, with the city of Dearborn, MI recently announcing that they would arrest Netanyahu if he enters city limits; and

WHEREAS, city police departments in Orange County, as well as the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, are legally able to arrest Benjamin Netanyahu if he enters their jurisdiction; let it be

RESOLVED, Titan YDSA calls on all cities within Orange County, as well as the County Board of Supervisors, to commit to arresting Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant if they enter their respective jurisdictions; and

RESOLVED, Titan YDSA’s members direct and authorize the Steering Committee to engage in discussions with any governmental agency, particularly those within the County of Orange, who are interested in enforcing international law and the Court’s arrest warrants; and

RESOLVED, Titan YDSA’s members direct the Steering Committee to reach out to the councilmembers of the cities of Fullerton, Santa Ana, Anaheim, and Irvine, as well as the members of the Orange County Board of Supervisors, to request meetings regarding the arrest warrants of Netanyahu and Gallant; and

RESOLVED, Titan YDSA encourages all interested organizations to contact the General Secretary at (619) 880-0135 or [email protected] to discuss how to coordinate efforts to arrest Netanyahu and Gallant should they ever come to our communities.
